Thanun — your companion with the Quran
Thanun does not track you, does not sell anything about you, and shows no ads. And your duas in Sada never leave your device.
The rule: everything stays on your device
Thanun works fully without an account and without an internet connection. Your reading position, your bookmark, your memorization plan, your city and prayer times, and your reminders are all stored on your device alone.
We collect nothing silently. Nothing goes to the cloud except what you choose by linking an account — plus the anonymous usage statistics described below, which you can switch off with a single toggle.
Your duas in Sada — a written promise
The text of your private duas is never uploaded to any server, never synced, and never shown in a notification. It stays on your device and goes when the app goes.
This is not just a spoken promise: the list of what gets uploaded is written out explicitly in the app’s source, and duas are not in it. Even the answer-time reminders carry only the count of your pending duas, with none of their text.
If you link an account (optional)
Signing in with Apple or Google serves one purpose: so your journey is not lost with your phone. In that case we store:
- An internal identifier for your account, plus your email, name, and picture as the provider gives them.
- Your reading position, your completed khatmah count, and your day streak.
- Your preferred reciter, font size, prayer-times city, and reminder choices.
- Your memorization plan and its segments.
The global khatmah and the circles
In the global khatmah we store the number of pages you have completed, and a timestamp showing you are present now so the number of readers can be known — it carries no name, no location, and nothing of what you read, and it expires after minutes.
In the trust circles, members see a count of who kept up today, not their names. Your own record in a circle is read by no one else — and knowing “who fell short” is prevented technically, not merely by etiquette.
Usage statistics (can be turned off)
To learn what is used and what breaks, we rely on Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. What is sent: which screens are opened and how often, which features are used, your country, device type, operating system, app version, session length, and crash reports — tied to a random internal identifier, not to your name or your email.
What is never sent: the text of your duas, what verses you read, your name, your email, your location, or any advertising identifier — we have disabled ad identifiers and ad personalization on both platforms.
To turn it off: “My Journey → Usage statistics.” After that no event and no crash report leaves your device. The collected data is deleted from Google’s servers after at most fourteen months, and deleting your account erases what was tied to your identifier.
What we do not do
- No ads, no advertisers, and no advertising tracking identifiers.
- We do not measure content: we do not know what you pray for or what you read.
- We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone.
- We do not ask for your location: prayer times are computed from a city you pick yourself.
Third parties
Accounts, syncing, the global khatmah, and usage statistics run on Google Firebase, and that data is subject to Google’s policy.
Recitations are streamed from the everyayah.com server, so that server sees — as any site you visit would — your connection address and the file requested. Downloading surahs for offline listening makes this happen once, after which playback is from your device.
Donations go entirely through the Apple or Google store: we never see your card and we do not record who donated.
Deleting your account and data
In “My Journey → Your journey is saved” there is a Delete account button. It erases your account and everything we stored about you in the cloud: your preferences and progress, your contributions to the global khatmah, your circle memberships, and the usage statistics tied to your identifier.
What is on your device remains yours, and you erase it by deleting the app. Deletion is final and cannot be undone.
If you deleted the app before deleting your account, ask us here: https://thanun.app/delete.html
Children
The app is not directed to children under thirteen, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes we update its date here and in the app. For any question or deletion request: support@thanun.app
